September: Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
In women age 35-74, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths.
An estimated one woman in 58 will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime. The
American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, there will be 21,650 new cases of
ovarian cancer and 15,520 women will die from ovarian cancer.
The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) is dedicated to raising awareness and
increasing education about ovarian cancer. Established in 1995, the organization is
committed to improving the survival rate and quality of life for women with this cancer.
